Our two final games on Saturday 11th March brought to an end another futsal winter season for FLFC.  For our final games, our team had been decimated by social commitments with only 4 FLFC players able to participate in the final games.  However, we overcame the odds to triumph 1-0 against DVD & 2-1 against FC Hauki.  Thanks to Vik's charm & the opposing team's generosity, DVD allowed us to play with arguably their best player... certainly a factor that aided our success but nothing should be taken away from the FLFC team put out that day, who defended for their lives & got in the way of everything that the opposition could offer.  The second game was an equally tight & tense affair, but as before, our strong defence held out.

This all put us in the second promotion place in the table, but our final victories were to prove in vain as the 2 teams below us both won their 2 remaining games.  We had finished 4th & for the first time in FLFC's short futsal history, we had failed to gain promotion.

We can all hold our heads up though, after a fiercely competitive season in which the quality of opposition had certainly improved. The high points of the season included the solid hard-working victories against the team who finished 2nd in the league, DVD (5-3 & 1-0), & also an equalizer against FC Dynamo with virtually the last kick of the game to secure a 3-3 draw.  Ultimately though, we were left disappointed on more than one occasion, with defeats against 'Timur inspired' Gotham City (1-8 & 6-8).  Timur being a former FLFC player, who seemed to relish turning on the style against us, taking Gotham City to the Futsal B Championship.  We also suffered another disappointing defeat to the Russian team FC Dynamo (0-3), a team who we seem to come up against every year, & after their final placing of third we can expect to resume our rivalry once again next season.  Perhaps the biggest disappointment of the season was losing 3-2 to Big Boys, a team we would expect to beat comfortably on any other day, but which we conspired to lose against, mainly through our surprising lack of composure but certainly not helped by the immensely poor referee who let the game turn into more of a fight than a game of football.

Now we can all look forward to the summer season & the pleasures of playing football outdoors, but not before we have another crack at the popular Ikaalinen futsal tournament, due to take place first weekend of April.  Will FLFC finally take that elusive Ikaalinen glory, or does more disappointment await us?  Whatever happens, there is no doubt that we will have a lot of fun, as we always do at Ikaalinen.
